Who are the Lions?

The Lions Club of Bridgend is part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service clubs organisation in the world. There are about 1.4 million Lion members.

The first club in the UK was formed in 1950 and the organisation has rapidly expanded to more than 900 clubs in Britain and Ireland today.

The Lions Club of Bridgend was formed in 1975 and presently comprises 26 men, all of whom are volunteers.

Members come from all walks of life and across a large age range - there is no maximum age, and members can join at age 18.

What is the aim of Lions?

The principal aim of Lions Clubs is to provide help and funds to those in need, whilst enjoying the satisfaction, fellowship and fun that can be derived from taking part.

Lions Clubs are dedicated to improving the quality of life for those less fortunate people in our community.

The Lions Club of Bridgend provides direct service to our community by events such as the Gateway Club Annual Disco and Christmas hampers for the needy, but its main activity is in raising funds for Charitable Purposes.

Members also participate in the various direct service activities and enjoy a social calendar which includes dinners, a treasure hunt and other social occasions where the principal aim is to have fun and enjoy ourselves.

New Members Required

It is inevitable that in any organisation members move on through work commitments or many other reasons and they need to be replaced.

New ideas and personalities are the life blood of any forward thinking organisation and new members bring with them not only original ideas but fresh thought and outlook on established events.

If you can sell raffle tickets or dance tickets then so much the better, if you can organise and plan events, excellent, but even if you cannot we would still like your input.

Events do not run themselves and we need all the manpower possible to ensure the continued success of the Lions Club of Bridgend.

What would you get out of joining?

It is a cliché, but you will get out of it what you put in!

Lions has been described as a constructive form of relaxation. Working together on fund raising and community welfare events is enormous fun.

The satisfaction of seeing an event through from planning and organisation to successful conclusion can be tremendous. Receiving the thanks of the recipients of your help, whether financial or practical, lifts your spirit.

On top of all that, there is the friendship and fellowship of members of the Lions Club of Bridgend, of Lions throughout Wales, throughout Britain and Ireland - throughout the world!
